Associate Professor of Molecular, Microbiology and Immunology

Professor Campbell's research involves studies of viral and parasite metabolic enzymes, particularly ribonucleases H (RNases H), and developing these enzymes as drug targets. RNases H represent validated yet under-exploited drug targets in HIV and HBV infections. Model systems such as the RNases H parasitic protozoa are used to define the range of enzyme mutations which might confer drug resistance and thus provide insight into understanding similar mutations in the viral enzymes.  Genetic and biochemical approaches are employed to study these enzymes.
