Students applying to the Brown SR-EIP are frequently offered an opportunity for research with one of the following groups:
Center for Advanced Materials Research (CAMR) is an independent academic unit whose goal is to coordinate and facilitate research and education in materials sciences across the campus, as well as to foster inter-institutional scholarship and study of modern materials by advanced experimental and theoretical tools.. Since 2001, the Brown SR-EIP has partnered with CAMR's NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program sponsored by the Materials Research Science and Engineering Group in the Division of Engineering.
Since 1992, Brown Medical School's National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Short Term Training Program has given students access to outstanding researchers in heart, lung, blood, and sleep disorders research. Research experiences have primarily been based in the departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Surgery, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology & Biochemistry, Molecular Pharmacology, Physiology & Biotechnology, Neuroscience and Community Health.
Brown SR-EIP students have frequently been placed with researchers in the academic departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology & Biochemistry (MCB), Molecular Pharmacology, Physiology & Biotechnology and Chemistry.
The Population Studies & Training Center (PSTC), an internationally respected demography research and training center offering an outstanding interdisciplinary graduate training program. Research interests include social demography, economic demography, anthropological demography, and population health. The Minority Summer Internship in Demography for Undergraduate Students began its partnership with the Brown SR-EIP in 2004.
The Institute for Community Health Promotion (ICHP), building upon several years of community-based research in association with the Center for Primary Care and Prevention, conducts research on community based health promotion and disease prevention, including work with ethnically diverse and underserved populations. The Center also works on the development of innovative medical education tools, curricula and programs for improving health promotion education.
