Gary Wessel, Ph.D.
Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology Biochemistry
Professor Wessel's research interest is the egg. He examines the molecular biology of oogenesis, fertilization, and the specification of primordial germ cells during early development. As part of this research, Professor Wessel studies the conserved mechanisms found in mice, starfish, and especially in sea urchins.
