Terry Tullis, Ph.D.
Professor Emeritus of Geological Sciences
Professor Tullis' main focus of research is the mechanics of earthquakes. This involves a combination of lab experiments on the frictional behavior of rock and computer modeling of earthquakes that employs the constitutive relations that arise from the lab experiments. Currently, he is focusing on the mechanics of earthquake slip and fault creep. His studies include investigating the fundamental processes involved in the frictional sliding of rocks, and how the constitutive laws that describe them can be used to model and help predict earthquakes.
