Professor (Research) of Community Health
Professor Lasater conducts community-based research with particular emphasis on behavior change programming for minority and other underserved populations. Currently he is PI on 3 NIH grants. One is a video based weight loss program for African American/Black women. This program consists of 12 videos and appropriate written materials. Another project involves the use of Motivational Interviewing to help women who quit smoking during pregnancy to remain abstinent in the postpartum. The other smoking and pregnancy project includes the use of 5 tailored DVDs to assist low income women to avoid tobacco exposure (theirs or someone elseÆs) during pregnancy and to avoid tobacco exposure of the new born after delivery.
