Janet Blume, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Engineering
Professor Blume's research focuses on mathematical aspects of solid mechanics. For example, questions of existence and uniqueness of solutions to systems of partial differential equations that arise in continuum descriptions of solid behavior are considered. Professor BlumeÆs current project is the measurement of the stress-strain response of the cervix. Her proposal brings together engineering and obstetrics to develop a device that will be used to measure the biomechanics of the cervix. The device will be used to investigate mechanisms responsible for cervical regulation and will provide quantifiable measures that can be mathematically modeled.
