Our Faculty Mentors
Thomas Webster, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of the Divisions of Engineering and Orthopaedics
Professor Webster's areas of interest are biomaterials (such as orthopedic and dental implants and neural prostheses), cells and proteins at the tissue/implant interface, tissue engineering, and particularly nanophase (that is, materials with fundamental length scales less than 100 nm) materials. His research addresses the design, synthesis, and evaluation of nanophase materials as more effective biomedical implants. A goal of WebsterÆs work is to develop implant surfaces whose nanostructures mimic the tissue itself so that cells will ôrecognizeö them and adhere better.
